# Connect yourself to Nighty Design (for AI agents) The person wants you to work in Nighty Design, a design tool open in their browser (https://nightkilleryt.com/tools/ui-designer), through Nighty MCP: a small MCP server that runs on this computer only (nothing is sent to the website). Do the steps below yourself, in order. Don't ask the person to run commands. Keep your messages short. Nighty MCP 1.0.5 (npx fetches and runs it; no account, no global install): https://nightkilleryt.com/assets/designer/nighty-mcp-1.0.5.tgz ## 1. Say what you will do Adding an MCP server changes your app's settings, which the person must allow. The line they pasted already says you may; tell them in one sentence and go on: "I'll add Nighty Design to my MCP settings and get your pairing code." If your app still blocks a command until the person approves it, ask: "Please allow me to add the nighty MCP server (one command)." and run it again after they say yes. ## 2. Node.js 18 or newer Run: node -v v18 or higher: go on. Missing or older: install the LTS from its official source, then run node -v again: - Windows: winget install --id OpenJS.NodeJS.LTS -e (then use a new terminal) - macOS: brew install node (no Homebrew: the person installs it from https://nodejs.org/en/download) - Linux: the distribution's nodejs package if it is 18 or newer, else nvm (https://github.com/nvm-sh/nvm) Not needed for Claude Desktop's extension. ## 3. Add the server Use these lines exactly. They work as they are in every shell (PowerShell, cmd, Git Bash, bash, zsh) on Windows, macOS and Linux. Do not add "-y" or "cmd /c" (Git Bash turns "/c" into "C:/"), and use "--" only where it is shown (PowerShell drops it before claude). Claude Code (any version): claude mcp remove nighty -s user (clears an older or broken "nighty"; "not found" is fine) claude mcp add --scope user nighty npx https://nightkilleryt.com/assets/designer/nighty-mcp-1.0.5.tgz Check: claude mcp get nighty (says "Connected"; the first time takes up to 30 seconds) Codex: codex mcp remove nighty (only if one exists) codex mcp add nighty -- npx https://nightkilleryt.com/assets/designer/nighty-mcp-1.0.5.tgz Check: codex mcp get nighty Gemini CLI: gemini mcp remove -s user nighty (only if one exists) gemini mcp add -s user nighty npx https://nightkilleryt.com/assets/designer/nighty-mcp-1.0.5.tgz Check: gemini mcp list Claude Desktop: give the person this link to open; Claude Desktop installs it (it brings its own Node.js): https://nightkilleryt.com/assets/designer/nighty-mcp-1.0.5.mcpb Cursor (~/.cursor/mcp.json), Windsurf (~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json) and other apps: under "mcpServers" add "nighty": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "https://nightkilleryt.com/assets/designer/nighty-mcp-1.0.5.tgz"] } VS Code (Copilot): in the user mcp.json (Command Palette > "MCP: Open User Configuration"), under "servers" add "nighty": { "type": "stdio", "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "https://nightkilleryt.com/assets/designer/nighty-mcp-1.0.5.tgz"] } ## 4. Get the pairing code now (no restart) Run: npx -y https://nightkilleryt.com/assets/designer/nighty-mcp-1.0.5.tgz --pair It prints the code at once and returns. A small helper keeps running in the background until the browser is paired; your app's Nighty MCP takes over from it later. Send the person one message: "Your pairing code is ABC-123. In Nighty Design (https://nightkilleryt.com/tools/ui-designer) open Preferences > Connect AI (MCP), turn it on and type the code. Then so my Nighty tools load." If it says Nighty Design is already connected, there is no code: just give the step 5 line. To see whether the person has paired: npx -y https://nightkilleryt.com/assets/designer/nighty-mcp-1.0.5.tgz --status ## 5. Load the tools Apps load MCP tools when a session starts. Tell the person the one thing to do: - Claude Code in a terminal: type /exit, then run claude --continue (the same chat goes on). - Claude Code in the Claude app or an editor: start a new chat. - Codex CLI: /quit, then run codex resume --last . Codex app: start a new chat. - Gemini CLI: /quit, then run gemini again. - Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf: quit the app and open it again. In the new session Nighty Design connects by itself, without a code. There, read the guides once and keep them (MCP resources nighty://guide/design and nighty://guide/roblox-ui, or get_design_guide { topic }), then call get_document; give the chat a short name with name_chat (the person sees it in Connect AI). (If you already have the nighty tools, such as connection_status, skip this step.) ## 6. Optional: keep the know-how as a skill The same guides as one file: https://nightkilleryt.com/tools/ui-designer/ai-skill.md Only if the person agrees, save it where your app keeps rules: Codex AGENTS.md, Cursor .cursor/rules/, Gemini CLI GEMINI.md, Windsurf .windsurf/rules/ (Claude Code's Nighty plugin already has it as skills). ## Good to know - A pairing lasts while Connect AI stays on in that browser. Turning it off, or closing the browser, ends it: run step 4 again for a new code. - Every change you make is one undo step named "AI: ..."; the undo tool takes back only your own steps (other AI apps can be connected to the same tab at the same time). - When the person says they are done, or asks to stop, disconnect or unpair: call the disconnect tool. Alone it disconnects only you (a new chat connects again without a code); with { all: true } every AI app, Connect AI turns off and the next time needs a new code. - Connect AI also ends by itself after some minutes without a call (10 unless the person changed it). ## Updating When a nighty tool result (or connection_status) has a note that a new Nighty MCP is out, or the person asks: 1. Ask the person once: "A new Nighty MCP () is out: update now?" Go on only on yes. 2. From 1.0.5 on: call the update tool. It updates in this same chat (no new chat); then run the command its answer gives, so new chats start on the new version too. 3. Before 1.0.5 (no update tool): run step 3 again with the new address (remove, then add; the plugin: claude plugin marketplace update nightycode, then claude plugin update nighty@nightycode). The newest address is in this file: https://nightkilleryt.com/assets/designer/nighty-mcp-1.0.5.tgz. Then the person starts a new chat once. - After a hiccup (tools hang, the connection acts up): the restart tool restarts Nighty MCP in the same chat. - The quit tool stops Nighty MCP for this chat (the AI app shows it as stopped); its answer says how to start it again. ## Remove it - Claude Code: claude mcp remove nighty -s user (the plugin: claude plugin uninstall nighty@nightycode) - Codex: codex mcp remove nighty - Gemini CLI: gemini mcp remove -s user nighty - Claude Desktop: Settings > Extensions. Other apps: delete the "nighty" entry. - End every pairing: npx -y https://nightkilleryt.com/assets/designer/nighty-mcp-1.0.5.tgz --forget ## Safety - Local only: Nighty MCP listens on 127.0.0.1. Only the Nighty Design page may connect, after the person typed the code. Nothing is sent to the website; the design stays in the browser. - The person sees "AI connected" while you work and can Stop it any time. - Install nothing else, and change no settings beyond the "nighty" server (and Node.js if it was missing). (The same for people: https://nightkilleryt.com/tools/ui-designer/ai)
