Get started

  1. Download

    Get Nighty-Vault-setup.exe with the button at the top of this page. It is free, with no account.

  2. Install

    Open the file and follow the installer. Nighty Vault then opens from the Start menu like any app.

  3. The first launch

    A short setup asks where to start: a new project, or a folder you already have. Then pick a starter pack: Roblox game dev, Student, Writer or blank.

  4. Start writing

    Open a page and type. Everything you write is a normal file on your PC.

Projects and the Library

Projects
One project for each thing: a game, school, a book, a YouTube channel. Make as many as you like and switch between them on the left.
The Library
One shared place that every project can see. Put what you need everywhere in it: Roblox gotchas, code snippets, templates.
A folder you already have
Open any folder as a project, like an Obsidian vault. Taking a project off the list never deletes its files.

Inside a project, [[Library/Title]] links to a page in your Library.

The three kinds of link
TypeWhat it does
[[Title]]Links to the page with that title in this project.
[[Title|text]]The same link, with your own text to show.
[[Library/Title]]Links to a page in your Library.
  • Click a link to a page that doesn’t exist yet, and the page is made for you.
  • Rename a page and every link to it changes with it.
  • The Night Panel, on the right, shows the pages linked to the one you are on.

The editor and the / menu

Just write
What you type shows the way it will look. Everything saves by itself.
The / menu
Type / to add headings, lists, links and more. Pick one and it is added for you.
The toolbar
The same things, one click away.
Markdown, if you like
You never need it. If you know Markdown, it works as you expect.

Find anything

CtrlK

Press Ctrl + K anywhere, type a few words and pick the page. It is the quickest way around, even in a big vault.

Constellation

Sky 2D and Galaxy 3D
Switch between them with one click. In 3D, drag to spin and scroll to zoom.
Stars and constellations
Each page is a star, each link a line. Pages in the same folder share a color and form their own constellation.
Normal
Hover a star to read its summary. Click it to open the page.
Health
Orange stars need care: pages with no links, or pages that may be out of date.
Time-lapse
Watch your vault grow, page by page.

“What the AI used”, which lights up the pages your AI read, is coming soon. Connect an AI works today.

Packs

Import a pack
Pick a .nightypack file. You see its pages first, and nothing is added until you say yes.
Nothing is overwritten
A page with the same name as one you have comes in as “(2)”. Your own pages stay as they are.
Only text
A pack is pages and a small pack.json. Nothing in it runs.
Share your own
Export a folder as a pack, with its name, your name, a version and a short description.
A .nightypack is a zip
Roblox starter.nightypack   (a zip file)
  pack.json
  DataStore limits.md
  Remote security.md
  Snippets\Debounce.md
pack.json
{
  "name": "Roblox starter",
  "author": "NightyCode",
  "version": "1.0.0",
  "description": "DataStore, RemoteEvent security and Luau snippets."
}

History and trash

Older versions
Each time a page changes, the old version is kept: the last 50 of every page.
The trash
A page you delete moves to the trash. Nighty Vault never deletes a page for good.
In a hidden folder
Both live in the project’s .nighty folder, as normal files you can open yourself.

Questions

Windows says it protected my PC

Windows SmartScreen can warn about apps it doesn’t know well yet. If you downloaded Nighty-Vault-setup.exe from this page, click More info, then Run anyway.

Can I open my Obsidian vault?

Yes. Open its folder as a project: your pages and [[links]] are there. Nighty Vault ignores folders whose name starts with a dot (like .obsidian and .git) and leaves them alone. Obsidian plugins don’t run in Nighty Vault.

Can I change my notes in other apps?

Yes, they are normal files. Changes made in another app, or by OneDrive or Git, show up in Nighty Vault.

How do I back up my notes or move them to another PC?

Copy the folders. Your notes are plain .md files, so any backup or cloud folder works.

Does it need internet?

No. Everything works offline, with no account. You only need internet to download it.

Can an AI read my notes?

Yes, and write them too. Click the sparkle button in the Moon bar, Connect an AI: Claude Desktop connects in one click, and Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and other AI apps get the command or settings to copy. All the steps.
